Inline Duct Fans

An inline duct fan should be selected at the required airflow and external static pressure, not by duct diameter alone. Map the duct route, fittings, grilles, filters and terminals first. Then choose the fan construction, speed control, sound treatment and service arrangement that fit the installed resistance and the intended application.

Quick answer

ISO 5801:2017 is a fan performance test method, not a certification scheme; confirm the actual test report and revision for the exact model. The European Union estimates that, without fan-efficiency regulation, fans would have used 336 TWh of electricity in 2020 and could reach 384 TWh in 2030. Why is external static pressure necessary?

Every bend, duct length, grille, filter and terminal adds resistance. The fan curve shows whether the selected model can still deliver the design airflow at that resistance.

Can a larger duct fan solve every airflow problem?

No. Oversizing can create excess noise, poor control and unnecessary energy use. Select from a defined duty point, then review controllability and acoustic treatment.

When is speed control useful?

Speed control can help match airflow to changing conditions, commissioning and noise targets. Check controller compatibility and the permitted operating range for the exact model.

What should an inline-fan RFQ include?
